"Hi! I'm Nikki, the creator of AAW. I started AAW because I want to help the cause of spreading arthritis awareness because just the word "arthritis" alone is very misunderstood. I do have some pages on this site with more general information, but I strongly encourage you to check out the links to the official websites for specific forms of arthritis. These sites are also great for family & friends of people with arthritic conditions -- and so are the Do's & Don'ts! My goal is to be a person that anyone, not just people with arthritic conditions, can contact anytime with one-on-one questions and/or need support. I'm here to help you personally, not just to post information. If I can't help you, I can refer you to someone who can (but I sure hope I can!).
A little about me...I'm 32 and I am happily married to Tim and we have a happy, healthy, beautiful one year old daughter named Anna. Tim & I started dating in 1999 (married 02/02/02) and Tim has stood by my side through it all in sickness & in health like he vowed to do. As with life in general, life hasn't always been easy, but we've made it through some extremely difficult times. I'll admit that the mental effects can be just as challenging as the pain, so it is imperative that you stay strong, stay focused on recovery, and have a support system. If you don't currently have a support system, contact us and you will!
I was diagnosed with JRA at the age of 10, RA at 18, Uveitis/Iritis at age 25, OA at age 29, and Facet Arthritis at age 30. I also have scoliosis & degenerative disk disease all in my lower back. I have quite a long, complicated medical history & I'm an open book (you just have to ask!).

"Hey everyone! My name is Michelle and I am from the great state of Wisconsin. I've lived in this state my whole life and although I love it here, the winters sure can be long and brutal. I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) in 1975. I was just two years old. Having this disease certainly has it's challenges both physically and mentally. Arthritis is certainly not for wimps, I'll tell you that much.
I've been on all types of medications from NSAID's, to chemotherapy agents and on to the latest medications-the "biologics" (Kineret, Enbrel, Orencia, Rituxan, and Humira just to name a few). Rheumatoid Arthritis has damaged my joints. I have had a few major surgeries, including joint replacements to improve my mobility. I volunteer for the Arthritis Foundation through my employer and really like to help those in need. If anything, this disease has taught me what courage, strength and compassion really is. Some of my favorite things include wine tasting, photography, baking, thai food and traveling! If you want to know anything else or if you have any questions drop me a line....till then, adios!"
